Dragon Quest VII Review Round-Up

We're really pleased that reviewers have been praising Dragon Quest VII's localisation. Here's a selection of some of the nice things they've been saying.

"In inviting you to observe each island’s quirks and rituals, Dragon Quest 7 sends a positive message about embracing other cultures, conveyed by an excellent localisation that works hard to distinguish each settlement from the next."

"Rather more timeless...is Dragon Quest VII's excellent writing. That's been a series staple for a long time, and this 3DS update knocks it out of the park, with a literary-lite tone that fits the epic worldbuilding quest perfectly."

"...regional dialects, puns in monster and skill names, and a...flowing script...have nailed exactly what makes Dragon Quest games a joy to play...
An amazing localisation..."

"What really stands out in this version is the localisation - it's downright delectable...
I found myself wanting to speak with every NPC, never skipping a speech bubble."

It goes without saying, but having our work recognised like this is incredibly satisfying. Long ago, we made it our goal to share the joys of Dragon Quest with the world, and we hope that our latest localisation will play a part in earning this venerable series a brand-new audience.

....Dragon Quest VII is Here!..ニンテンドー3DS版『Dragon Quest VII エデンの戦士たち』遂に海外へ!....

The wait is over! Dragon Quest VII is here at last! A full 16 years after the game’s original release (Goddess, we’re old), the Nintendo 3DS version arrives sporting beautifully updated graphics, added gameplay features—and a completely new translation, of course!

Localising this classic was a real labour of love for us, and we’re absolutely delighted that people can finally get their hands on the game. Kiefer, Maribel, Ruff and the gang have become like family to us, so it’s a little emotional seeing them go out into the world.

Working on such a legendary title was both a pleasure and a privilege, and whether you’re a die-hard fan of the series or completely new to the world of DQ, we really hope you enjoy the fruits of our labours. Oh, and feel free to let us know what you think!

Right, time to save the world!

....Dragon Quest VII Draws Near!..『Dragon Quest VII エデンの戦士たち』 海外版が今秋発売!....

We're extremely proud to announce that we have been working on the localisation of the JRPG classic Dragon Quest VII for its epic reboot on Nintendo 3DS, scheduled for release in the autumn.

Fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting this one for a long time, so we were hugely grateful for the opportunity to work on an entirely new Japanese to English localisation, with our FIGS team handling the French, Italian, German and Spanish versions.

Being a legendarily massive game, it was all hands on deck from the start, but we loved working on it and hope players will enjoy it in all its time-travelling, continent-straddling, slime-squishing glory.

We'll have plenty more to say about this one once it's finally released—for now, be sure to clear the diary for a couple of months and get ready for this whopper to land!

....Hello Tokyo!..オフィス移転のお知らせ....

We’re very happy to announce the opening of our new Tokyo office, which will now be our base of operations in Japan. After two very enjoyable years in Osaka, we decided to make the move to the (even) big(ger) city, and have just this week finished settling into a beautiful new space in Higashi-Kitazawa. We’re all very excited about this new chapter in the Shloc story.

Being in Tokyo means that we’re now closer to many of our clients, and we hope that this will help us develop even better working relationships.

Be sure to drop by for a visit if you’re in the area–there’s a very nice view of Mount Fuji! (Disclaimer: View of Mount Fuji not available in summer. Or when it’s raining. Or when it looks like it might rain. Or at night.)

WELCOME TO THE NEW SITE!.. Shloc Ltd.のウェブサイトへようこそ!

It's been a long time coming, and the subject of much debate and drama, but the new-look Shloc Ltd website is finally a thing of reasonably attractive reality.

After years spent hiding behind an enigmatic, logo-only single-page site, we thought it was finally time to poke our heads out from behind the curtain and showcase some of the projects we've been working on, as well as the new services we offer.

In addition to the Japanese to English localisation services which made our name, we're now able to provide English to Japanese, as well as English to French, Italian, German and Spanish. This has allowed us to handle projects in all five major western languages, and also to broaden the scope of our operations considerably.

In putting together teams of trusted freelancers with lengthy experience in video game localisation, we've kept the quality and the camaraderie high, and have already had one bona fide five-language hit in the form of Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below.

There's more in the pipeline too, so expect to see us announcing new projects as the year goes on. Oh, and if you'd like to get in touch about anything at all, please don't hesitate to do so!
